I'd like to welcome everyone to the BMWROTB Legal Discussion area. This is a safe place to ask or discuss any legal issue or topic. If I can help you, I will!
I'm an attorney here in the Tampa Bay area and have been the Registered Agent for BMWROTB since it's inception. I ride a BMW 1200 ST, a Ducati Hypermotard SP, a Kawasaki ZX-10R, and a BMW 650 GS Sertao. I've been riding since early elementary school, and my first bike was a Hodaka Ace 90 "Scrambler".
My area of practice has always been assisting individuals as they navigate the complexities of insurance laws and the legal system, when their life has been disrupted due to some unforeseen event. Basically, I help people put their lives back together, and I've been practicing here in Tampa Bay since 1993. You can read more about me and my firm at my website - myriderlaw.com
I have written for Cycle Scene Magazine, and I currently contribute to the Euro Cycles newsletter from time to time. I plan on posting my articles here as well, and I invite all of you to suggest legal topics of interest to motorcyclists for future newsletters.
Take care and ride safe,
RC

A perennial question with varying answers: Is insurance required to operate a motorcycle in the State of FL? If not, what happens if you travel to another State where it is required. Thank you. Frank

A perennial question with varying answers: Is insurance required to operate a motorcycle in the State of FL? If not, what happens if you travel to another State where it is required. Thank you. Frank Great question Frank. The short answer is no - Florida does not require adult motorcycle operators to carry insurance, UNLESS they go helmetless. If you travel to another State, you must abide by their laws regarding coverage. Information on each State can be found on that State's Department of Insurance (or Motor Vehicles) website, or you can go the the AMA website, here. www.americanmotorcyclist.com/Rights/State-Laws.aspx The AMA website has some errors on it though, so always double check. If anyone is traveling out of State, and wants to know about insurance requirements for any particular State, let me know and I'll look it up for you. RC
