Cindy and I are in Fairbanks headed north. Both F650 GS twins have done a great job hauling us from Gulfport to the Arctic. We made stops in Branson, MO; and Fargo, ND and have been pretty lucky with weather so far. Our last Alaska trip was by our 1200 R and F650 CS. Cindy wanted more power and I needed less weight. The two 650 twins are a good fit as we are both short and I am old.
We came up by East Glacier with stops in Banff and Jasper along the Icefields Highway. Gas stops and lodging in northern BC and the Yukon are few and far between with many facilities closed and boarded up. Though we carry extra fuel, we have not needed it. Longest distance between fuel stops was 158 miles.
Aaron gave us a lot of good advice on routing and places to visit along the way. A lot of the tourism is by motorcyclists with many Goldwings, quite a few Harleys and a significant number of BMWs.
We made reservations today for space on an Alaskan Marine Highway vessel from Whittier to Bellingham, WA. We plan to visit along the Oregon coast prior to heading back to Florida.
We had new tires and brake pads put on at Tampa Eurocycles the week prior to departure and have not been troubled by any pavement or gravel induced challenges.
Regards to all, Al and Cindy Davis
